GMC has long carved out a niche for itself in GM’s stable of brands as a seller of premium, upscale trucks and SUVs. The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 full-sized pickup is emblematic of GMC’s brand positioning, offering the power and capability that you would expect from a half-ton light-duty pickup with a range of luxury and high-tech features that would make previous generations of pickup drivers green with envy.

If you’re looking for a 2024 Sierra 1500 for sale, you have a wide range of engine choices, cab configurations, and luxury and technology options. Find out why GMC bills itself as Professional Grade, even to the point that its base trim level is called “Pro.” The Sierra 1500 is equally at home on the job site or on a trail above the treeline.

Under the Hood

The heartbeat of a truck comes from its engine. The Sierra 1500 offers a wide range of engines designed for power, efficiency, or both. The lineup begins with a four-cylinder, 2.7-liter TurboMax engine. With its high-output design, this powertrain delivers a robust 310 hp and an impressive 430 lb-ft. of torque. This performance is due to the Sierra’s advanced turbocharger, which is equipped with specialized oiling and cooling systems. All of this gives it best-in-class torque for a standard base engine. With a trailering package, the TurboMax can tow up to 9,500 lbs. This engine is standard in the Pro, SLE, and Elevation trim levels.

Moving to the realm of V8 power brings us to the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine. It delivers a solid 355 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, coupled with a smooth 10-speed automatic transmission. Properly equipped with a towing package, this engine delivers a maximum tow rating of 11,200 lbs. This engine comes standard in the SLT and Denali trim levels and is an optional upgrade for the Pro, SLE, and Elevation trims.

For those seeking even greater power, the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 is an excellent option. This engine boasts 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. of torque and is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for smooth operation. It also offers remarkable towing capacity, reaching up to 13,100 lbs. With Dynamic Fuel Management, fuel efficiency is approximately 15 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highway. This engine comes standard on the Denali Ultimate trim level and is optional on SLT, AT4, Denali, and AT4X trims.

Moving into the realm of diesel power, the Duramax 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel inline-six is a perfect choice for those who prioritize a balance between power and efficiency. Generating 305 hp and a thumping 495 lb-ft. of torque, it’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and also boasts an impressive towing capacity of 13,300 lbs. It offers best-in-class highway fuel economy. The Duramax engine is equipped with Active Thermal Management, a system designed to maintain optimal engine temperature for heavy-duty use. Additionally, it features an electrically controlled, variable-geometry turbocharger, enhancing its capability to deliver responsive and quick acceleration.

This year, the Duramax has been upgraded for even more capability. New steel pistons, a retuned turbo, new fuel injectors, and improved temperature control round out the list of refinements. GMC says these upgrades make the Duramax even smoother and quieter, and—of particular note—even better off-road.

Go-anywhere Capability

Speaking of off-road, the Sierra 1500 lives up to its rugged name with a range of features to increase its off-road prowess and its ability to get around in nasty weather. An available Selectable Traction Modes feature lets you choose Sport and Off-road modes, along with a Tow/Haul mode. This system optimizes powertrain calibrations, working with the engine and transmission to pick the best power delivery for the driving conditions. It also offers Tour, Terrain, and Snow modes.

The AT4 and AT4X trims epitomize the Sierra 1500’s off-road capabilities. The AT4 comes with a two-speed Autotrac transfer case and an automatic locking rear differential. Skid plates protect the vulnerable bits on the underside. Its off-road suspension is paired with a two-inch factory lift. The DuraMax Turbo-Diesel is the standard powerplant, although the 6.2-liter gasoline V8 is also available.

The AT4X takes things up a notch with Multimatic DSSV dampers along with an AEV stamped-steel bumper and AEV stamped boron steel skid plates. It also offers front and rear electronic locking, a feature not offered on any other vehicle in its class. It offers extra luxury with a 12-speaker premium Bose sound system with Centerpoint Surround Sound.

Getting the Job Done

GMC builds trucks that work as hard as they play. To that end, the Sierra 1500 includes features like its 14 camera views to make towing and maneuvering with a trailer easier and safer. This includes a Bed View with guidance to help make hitching easier. Frond and rear top-down views and surround views give you an all-around view. Rear side views include trailer biasing and trailer angle indicators. The Transparent Trailer view uses a camera on the trailer to create a view of what’s behind you as if the trailer weren’t there. There’s even an Inside Trailer view, which is great for keeping an eye on shifting cargo or horses.

Other features make working with the Sierra easier. It offers more cargo bed volume than any competing truck. The available MultiPro six-function tailgate makes loading and unloading its cargo bed easier. It provides a smaller gate within the main tailgate to allow greater access to the bed and act as a full-width step. The Prograde Trailering System offers a trailering app that lets you create profiles for each of your trailers, monitor their tire pressure, get maintenance reminders for them, and go through a departure checklist before hitting the road. It also offers SMart Trailer Integration, which lets you monitor and control things like the water level and HVAC system in your trailer.

Interior Features

True to its role as a premium truck manufacturer, GMC offers one of the most luxurious and high-tech interiors in the industry. Optional premium materials include full-grain leather seating and real wood trim. Optional 10-way power-adjustable front bucket seats are heated and ventilated. In crew cab versions, everyone onboard will enjoy best-in-class front leg room and headroom. GMC’s Super Cruise hands-free driver assist technology makes long drives easier and less stressful.
